A$AP Rocky found guilty of assault

A Swedish court has found A$AP Rocky guilty of assault.

On Wednesday (August 14, 2019), a Stockholm judge issued the Praise the Lord (Da Shine) hitmaker with a conditional sentence for his involvement in a street brawl with 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari in Sweden’s capital on 30 June.

The 30-year-old musician, real name Rakim Mayers, was arrested on July 2nd for his involvement in the incident, and was detained in jail for a month before being released from custody on August 2nd.

Prosecutor Daniel Suneson called for a six-month prison sentence for Rocky and two of his crew, while the defense argued they acted in self-defense and should be acquitted. The court found all three guilty of assault but ruled they had served adequate time for their involvement in the scuffle and would not face an additional fine.

“The assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen,” the court said in a statement.

The two members of the rapper’s entourage were also handed conditional sentences, and together all three were ordered to pay Jafari $1300 in compensation, as well as the legal costs of the prosecution.

The case surrounding Rocky garnered global media attention, with U.S. President Donald Trump and stars including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West pushing for his release.

The F**kin’ Problems hitmaker made his stage return at a festival in California over the weekend (August 10-11, 2019).
