CBS lawyers have apparently backed down from their previous efforts to obtain the notes and sources of reporter Peter Lance, author of a book about the Survivor TV show that alleges it was rigged. After originally demanding that Lance produce “memoranda, letters, facsimiles, emails, telephone records and telephone messages” when he appears for a deposition, CBS has sent Lance a “clarification” saying that “we’re not seeking privileged materials.” Lance had maintained that he would rather go to jail than turn over the information, which he claimed was protected by reporters shield laws.
