Ewan McGregor and Kevin Bacon Speak Out On Weinstein

Ewan McGregor and Kevin Bacon have joined the growing list of Hollywood’s leading men condemning film producer Harvey Weinstein for decades of alleged sexual abuse and harassment.

The movie boss is seeking help for sex addiction after he was booted from the board at The Weinstein Company, the top production firm he co-founded with his brother Bob, on Sunday (08Oct17), and now Trainspotting star McGregor hopes Harvey’s career as a Hollywood power player is over.

Bacon has taken to social media to heap praise on the women coming forward and leveling accusations of abuse and sexual misconduct at Weinstein.

“Fathers. Teach your sons to respect woman. Teach your daughters to use their power like the voices of these heroic woman speaking out (sic),” the Footloose star tweeted.

The women include Ashley Judd, who was quoted in a Weinstein expose published by the New York Times last week (05Oct17), and Italian actress Asia Argento, who claimed the movie mogul forced himself upon her during a meeting at a hotel in France.

Longtime Weinstein collaborators Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, George Clooney, and Leonardo DiCaprio have also condemned the producer’s alleged actions.

Damon said the allegations in the Times and New Yorker exposes had left him “absolutely sick to my stomach”, while Affleck added he was “saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades”.

On Tuesday (10Oct17), three women accused Weinstein of rape, while actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow both claimed they had been sexually harassed by him.

A statement released by the movie mogul’s representative reads: “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr Weinstein.”
