Friends, family and fans of late folk singer Pete Seeger got together on Sunday (02Feb14) to pay tribute to the icon at an unofficial public memorial. The legendary musician passed away at the New York Presbyterian Hospital last week (ends02Feb14) after a short illness, aged 94.
Libby Funeral Home in Beacon, New York hosted a reception on Sunday and by early afternoon, more than 1,000 attendees had gathered to pay their final respects the late singer.
His family held the reception at the funeral home, where two rooms were decorated with numerous photographs and memorabilia. An urn containing Seeger’s ashes was also on display.
At one stage, mourners sang Where Have All the Flowers Gone, one of Seeger’s early folk ballads, as a tribute to the singer/songwriter, according to Billboard.com.
Seeger and his wife Toshi, who died in July last year (13), lived in Beacon for 40 years.
