Robert Redford to receive film festival’s highest honour

Robert Redford is to receive a special award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) in California. The Oscar winner will be presented with the American Riviera Award at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theatre on 7 February (14) as part of the 29th SBIFF, which runs from 30 January to 9 February (14).
The American Riviera Award is the festival’s highest honour, created to recognise “an actor who has had a strong influence on American Cinema”.
Previous recipients include Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Annette Bening, Sandra Bullock and Mickey Rourke.
Roger Durling, SBIFF’s executive director, says, “To honour Robert Redford with the American Riviera Award is an immense privilege for SBIFF. His 50-year career – filled with significant achievements both on and off camera – is reason enough for celebration, but his role in All Is Lost, one of the best performances of the year, proves that he’s an artist that continues to evolve and inspire us.”
