Zachary Quinto produces university pal’s horror film

Movie star Zachary Quinto has helped to give an old university pal a step up in the movie industry by producing the aspiring writer/director’s new horror film. The Star Trek actor met Blair Erickson while studying at Carnegie Mellon University in his native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the pair’s friendship has since turned professional after Quinto signed on to make low-budget horror film The Banshee Chapter through his Before the Door Pictures production firm.
Quinto admits the project, about the secret government testing of psychotropic drugs, is “a bit of a departure” from his usual films, but tells the BBC, “It came to us through the writer director Blair Erickson, someone that we knew from university. He is an innovative storyteller and I really liked how he was approaching this story. It’s a psychological slash horror but it is set in a world where there is some historical truth peppered into the fictional narrative.”
Producers at Before the Door Pictures previously worked on 2011 drama Margin Call and Robert Redford’s 2013 sea drama All Is Lost, which is nominated for an Oscar in Sound Editing.
