Zoe Saldana: ‘I get over heartbreak very easily’

Actress Zoe Saldana doubts she’s ever really been truly in love because she managed to recover “very easily” from her failed romances with ex-boyfriend Bradley Cooper and former fiance Keith Britton. The Avatar star split from Britton, her partner of 11 years, in 2011 and began dating the Silver Linings Playbook hunk months later after working together on thriller The Words. They enjoyed a three-month relationship before breaking things off in March, 2012, and reunited in September last year (12), only to end their on/off relationship for a second time just before Christmas (12).
Saldana admits she has always healed fairly well after suffering heartache, but she wonders if her ability to bounce back so quickly means she has never actually fallen deeply in love.
She tells Latina magazine, “I feel it (heartache). I allow myself to feel it. Of course everyone around me will notice how it (a break-up) made me feel, but I tend to recover very easily.
“When I lose, when my heart is broken, when I lose a competition, when I don’t get something, when something doesn’t go my way or I have a heartbreak or whatever, maybe it’s just the kind of person that I am, or maybe I haven’t really fallen in love yet, had that crash boom bam in my life yet, but I tend to recover… healthy and smoothly. And I’ve been that way up until now. And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it (sic).”
The actress, who has been single since parting with Cooper in December (12), insists she would never want to have to rely on a man but she isn’t against the idea of embarking on a new relationship: “I don’t want to need things. I need water, you know what I’m saying? I need to exercise, I need to eat. To be with a man, should be a want. I don’t need anybody.
“The people that I do need are just family… But a man is something that I want, I want be with a partner, because this partner is going to add or I’m going to add to this partner.”
