Time to Step Up Your Coat Game

Having an office based in SoHo certainly has its perks. There’s the occasional celebrity spotting (read: waiting in line for coffee with Sebastian Stan and eating tacos next to Leonardo DiCaprio at Tacombi on Elizabeth) and the sartorial eye candy downtown is truly second to none. It’s usually around this time of year that we get amped about the street style in Soho, because, like everyone and their mother, fall is hands down our favorite sartorial season.

Fall means boots, hats, pumpkin spice lattes, and last but not least, coats. After melting in this concrete jungle all summer long, the arrival of coat weather is equivalent to the moment your 5-year-old self woke up on Christmas morning and found that perfect Barbie Jeep under your tree. But this time the Barbie Jeep is a whole lot of minimalistic, perfectly-tailored coats. Sign. Us. Up.

As the colder temperatures hit, we’re expecting to see a shift towards a 90s-inspired silhouette. Oversized buttons, checkered prints, and puffy knee-length parkas will rule the streets in the coming months, and we’re completely on board. It’s a separation from the ultra-tailored pea coats of seasons past, and that’s cool with us: there’s something very “90s career woman” about a strong lapel and a fantastically furry hood. Those leather sleeves don’t hurt, either.
