A Very Hollywood Halloween: The Best Celebrity Costumes

best_of_hollywood_halloween_costumes

Feliz día de los muertos, Hollywooders! It’s Monday, November 1, and that can only mean one thing — our favorite celebrities spent all weekend dressed to the nines in some truly amazing Halloween costumes.

We know you probably spent the weekend creating your own costumes, gorging out on candy, binge watching spooky content, and/or heading to Halloween parties all over. Now that Halloween has passed, it’s time to relax, review what our favorite celebrities wore…and start planning an even better costume for next year.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Lizzo

Lizzo never disappoints, does she?

The singer-songwriter rocked a few different costumes over the weekend. First, Lizzo got her green on as Grogu, the powerful Jedi child from The Mandalorian, and hit the streets of Hollywood to show off her sense of the Force. If you saw a green alien walking Hollywood Boulevard this weekend, you just may have seen the “Truth Hurts” singer and not even realized it!

At a concert this weekend, Lizzo and her dancers took on a more recent pop culture behemoth and dressed up as characters from the hit Netflix series Squid Game to perform Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Halloween 2021 Costumes:  Vanessa Hudgens

Actress Vanessa Hudgens took her own swing at a Grogu costume at Outside Lands festival in San Francisco this weekend, wearing Star Wars-inspired onesies with her boyfriend to the outdoor music festival.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, and Olivia De Jonge

Power couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner teamed up with actress Olivia De Jonge for a throwback look inspired by 2003’s The Lizzie McGuire Movie. It’s always nice to see a Jonas brother embrace his Disney Channel roots!

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon never disappoints, and this Halloween she created an inspired look — and threw it back even further than Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner did — by taking on Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1963 film The Birds. Reese Witherspoon captured Tippi Hedren’s original blue look, topped off with what appears to be a headband with (you guessed it) birds on top!

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Harry Styles

Harry Styles’ Harryween took New York City by storm on Halloween, and he also chose to pay tribute to a classic film. He pulled off The Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy flawlessly — no word on who might have played Toto, though.

Halloween 2021 Costumes:  Lil Nas X

Did you ever doubt that Lil Nas X would deliver on Halloween?

The “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” singer first portrayed a niche Nickelodeon character, Seth Powers, from the ‘00s sitcom Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, wearing a green jumpsuit and basketball on his hand to look the part.

Next, Lil Nas X immediately outdid himself with a truly impressive makeup job as Voldemort from the Harry Potter series — or, as the 22-year-old musician put it, He Who Must Be Called By Your Name.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka went all-in this year with a family photo featuring the pair and their children as several classic horror villains, like Norman Bates from Psycho, Jack Torrance from The Shining (with a broken-down door to complete the look!) and Chucky from Child’s Play.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade

Actress Gabrielle Union and her husband, former NBA star Dwyane Wade, appeared to keep it simple this weekend, dressing up as zombies with their daughter Kaavia.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Another famous family! Chrissy Teigen and John Legend went all out as spooky classics The Addams Family. It’s unclear who is dressed as Cousin Itt, but all in all, Chrissy Teigen pulled this group costume off spectacularly.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Steve Buscemi

Actor Steve Buscemi was spotted out and about in Brooklyn, New York on Halloween dressed as, well, himself.

Steve portrayed a private eye named Lenny Wosniak in a 2012 episode of 30 Rock that features a cutaway gag showing his character infiltrating a high school as an undercover cop to little success. “How do you do, fellow kids?” has since grown into a popular meme — and it seems the 63-year-old actor decided to lean into the joke once more.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Sydney Sweeney and Maude Apatow

Sydney Sweeney and Maude Apatow — both stars in HBO’s Euphoria — put together one of the all-time best duo costumes as the Grady Twins from the horror classic The Shining.

We’d be just as skeptical about playing with these twins as you are.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande served up some high-quality costuming with two different classic movie looks. First, the 28-year-old singer went all out as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and then she and her husband Dalton Gomez masqueraded as characters from the movie musical Little Shop of Horrors.

Halloween 2021 Costumes: Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

Last (but not least!) Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello wore costumes inspired by the Day of the Dead (or Día de los Muertos) holiday, which traditionally begins on October 31 and runs through Tuesday, November 2.
