5 Thoughts I Had While Streaming Episode 5 of ‘Loki’

Hey, Hollywooders! What’s Good in the ‘Wood? Last week’s episode of the hit Loki series had us questioning if we could trust the Time Variance Authority, and the cliffhanger ending had us counting down the minutes until Disney+ released Episode 5!

In Episode 4 of Loki, we saw plot twist after plot twist in what could be credited as the most engaging episode of the series so far. Our favorite anti-hero Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is a full-on superhero now that it has been revealed that the sacred Time Keepers are fake. Additionally, fan-favorite Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) is pruned (with his ultimate fate still undetermined), and to top it off, a mid-credits scene reveals three new Loki variants!

So, with the groundwork all laid out for the fifth episode of Marvel’s newest series, here are five spoiler-free thoughts I had while streaming Loki Episode 5 on Disney+.

#1: What’s the meaning behind the episode’s title?

Once again I find myself trying to unravel the meaning behind the title of this week’s episode. The fifth episode of the Loki series is rightfully titled “Journey Into Mystery” as it follows Loki, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), and Mobius’ exploration of The Void, a desolate purgatory where pruned variants are sent.

Additionally, the title is referring to the mystery that lays beyond The Void, which our heroes suspect will answer the question of, “Who created the TVA?”

#2: The classic Marvel costumes return

We got our first tease of a classic comic book accurate Loki costume during a mid-credits scene during last week’s episode, “The Nexus Event,” and now we get a full episode to dissect this exciting development!

Classic Loki (Richard E. Grant) dons the iconic bright green and yellow Loki costume for the entirety of Episode 5, and it instantly had us thinking of when Wanda and Vision wore their classic costumes in WandaVision. However, while WandaVision literally wrote the costume change into the script, Classic Loki’s wardrobe choice doesn’t have the same amount of explanation.

#3: The Loki vs. Loki showdown feels like an arcade game

While in The Void, Loki runs into countless variations of himself. From Kid Loki to President Loki to even an Alligator Loki, there’s enough Lokis to go around. But that’s why when the many variants get into a group fight it feels like an epic live-action arcade game. Think in the vein of Super Smash Bros with each Loki having their own special power combos.

#4: Loki won’t let himself down

Throughout his time in the MCU, Loki is known for his status as a Trickster God. He can never be trusted, as he stabs many people in the back to further his own personal agenda. This makes him the perfect candidate for Loki, a series about self-acceptance and growth.

During his hero’s journey in Loki, the God of Mischief meets many allies along the way, including the Loki variant Sylvie. And while it is tradition for Loki to betray the trust of those closest to him, he will never betray himself—which is why he won’t let Sylvie, his own variant, down.

#5: How is Loki going to end?

With only one episode of Loki left, we are all wondering the same questions. Who is behind the TVA? Will Loki remember any of this when he is returned to his proper timeline? But the biggest question we have going into the finale is: How is Loki going to end?

Like the previous two Marvel TV shows, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki’s finale is destined to set up future Phase 4 movies. However, with time travel and variants already established, what will be the next big reveal? The answer lies within the TVA’s origin. As our heroes uncover the truth about the TVA, they will also be discovering a crucial element to the future of the MCU.

How’s Twitter reacting to Loki Episode 5?

With the hype around Loki only getting bigger, Twitter was quick to react with hilarious memes and reactions.

Loki getting embarrassed by his variants is giving major Marge Simpson energy.

The cinematography in “Journey Into Mystery” took a major step up and looks absolutely stellar!

Dear Kevin Feige, please give us a season two so it’s not all over next week.

You can’t have a Marvel series without an iconic trio.

Loki took the Spider-Man meme to a whole other level.
