Notebook director sues film studio

The screenwriter claims he was hired by New Line Cinema to “supervise the script” for movie Elephant Orphanage, for which he agreed a fee of $275,000 (£171,875).

He was also reportedly promised “several million dollars” to direct the film – but Cassavetes insists he had to completely re-write the script, which he would normally charge $750,000 (£468,750) for.

In the lawsuit, Cassavetes states that after he finished the script movie bosses dropped him as director of the picture and refused to pay him any money.
