Dammit Watson! You spilled the beans! After winning a BAFTA for best dramatic supporting actor, Martin Freeman let it be known that his Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the cast of The Hobbit. However, it was supposed to be a secret and he spilled the beans. When asked about it, Cumberbatch wouldn’t reveal any details on who he might be playing, but basic deduction has led us to believe that he will portray Bard the Bowman, an elf with a mighty good knack for the bow and arrow (hence the name).
Now, let it be known that this is a GOOD THING. Benedict Cumberbatch, besides having one of the most awesome British names EVER, is an incredible actor. If you’re not watching Sherlock with him as the famed detective and Freeman as the lovable Dr. Watson you are seriously missing out. It’s written by current Doctor Who head writer Steven Moffat and it’s absolutely one of the best and most inventive takes on the classic detective. I know this article was supposed to be about The Hobbit but believe me, Sherlock is good enough to overshadow Tolkein. It’s on Netflix Instant so you really don’t have an excuse. And believe me, if you like Sherlock you’ll like the new seasons of Doctor Who. It’s just like it but with a bit more science fiction. Look, just watch Sherlock. That’s the point here.
