Noel Gallagher: ‘My brother Liam is not well’

Noel Gallagher fears his estranged brother Liam’s erratic behaviour is a sign he is mentally unwell.
The siblings have been publicly feuding since 2009, when their band Oasis broke up after a backstage fight, but the animosity has increased in recent months as Liam, 45, has taken to goading Noel on social media.
In an interview with the Irish Independent, 50-year-old rocker Noel said he fears for his younger brother’s mental health.
“Who knows what’s inside the mind of a village idiot!” he said. “I will say this – and this is all I will say about it. I don’t think that he is well. I think it says more about him than it does about anything else. I honestly don’t think he is well.”
Blaming Liam for the problems in their relationship he continued: “I never fought with Liam at all. Liam was fighting with himself. Right now, he is picking a fight with himself somewhere. I don’t suffer fools in any f**king sense at all, but I suffered him more than maybe I should have done.”
Liam regularly shares his thoughts on Twitter and often slams his older brother in the posts. This year alone (17), he’s taken aim at Noel for not performing at a concert for the victims of the Manchester bombing terror attack, for failing to invite him to his 50th birthday celebration, and for performing live on TV with a percussionist ‘playing’ a pair of scissors.
In a previous interview with BBC Radio 4, Noel blamed his brother’s social media activity for encouraging abuse towards his family.
“My wife has shown me things that people have written about her and it’s disgraceful,” he vented. “My daughter has shown me things people have written about her in regards to Oasis. That’s disgraceful – and it only heightens my resolve that I’ll never walk the stage with that band again for that reason.”
