Daft Punk Single Sets New Record on Spotify

Daft Punk

We don’t know what’s more impressive: French electronic duo Daft Punk setting a new record on online music service Spotify with their first non-soundtrack, non-sampled single in eight years or the fact that they can do it after taking such a long hiatus.

Their new single “Get Lucky” — off their eagerly anticipated and long-awaited upcoming albumRandom Access Memories — has now been streamed on Spotify more than any other song in one day in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The song that held the record prior in the U.S. was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ ubiquitous “Thrift Shop,” with Bastille‘s catchy “Pompeii” holding the record in the U.K. The single, which features hit-making rapper/producer Pharrell Williams is off the group’s fourth album. Random Access Memories is due to hit stores on May 21. We’ll have to wait and see what kind of records that record could break.
