Irwin Winkler settles royalties lawsuit over Goodfellas film

Goodfellas producer Irwin Winkler has settled his royalties lawsuit with bosses at Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Winkler sued executives at the movie company in September (15) for breach of contract, claiming he was owed $18 million (GBP12.7 million) for home video sales from 1990 film Goodfellas, which was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci.
In his lawsuit, Winkler alleged his contract guaranteed him 50 per cent of net profits of the movie and five per cent of gross receipts after the film “broke even”.
The parties have now reached an undisclosed settlement.
“This lawsuit was based on a misunderstanding, which I am happy to say has been resolved,” a statement from Winkler reads. “I have been making movies at Warner for more than 25 years and consider the folks there to be extremely trustworthy, professional and skilled. Most recently, I had a great experience making Creed with Warner and MGM, and look forward to a long and continued collaboration with them.”
