Jaime Camil heading to Broadway’s Chicago

Jane the Virgin star Jaime Camil is heading to Broadway as the new star of Chicago.
The singer/actor has been chosen to play the male lead of slick lawyer Billy Flynn in the Tony Award-winning musical about murder and the media in the 1920s.
Camil will begin a five-week engagement at the Ambassador Theatre on 31 May (16).
The role mark’s Camil’s return to Broadway after making his debut in 2005 play Latinologues. That same year, he starred in the musical adaptation of 1995 film The Mambo Kings, alongside Esai Morales. The production was slated to move to Broadway after a run in San Francisco, but plans were axed after the show was critically panned.
Camil, who plays Gina Rodriguez’s on-screen actor father in Jane the Virgin, has also led Mexican productions of musicals such as West Side Story, Hook and Aladdin.
Camil joins a star-studded list of actors who have also taken on the role of Billy Flynn on Broadway, including original cast member Jerry Orbach, James Naughton, David Hasselhoff, Usher, Patrick Swayze, and Taye Diggs, while Richard Gere played the lawyer in the 2002 movie version.
