Little Mix accused of copying group G.R.L’s hit song

Little Mix have come under fire after fans noticed similarities with their new song and a track by U.S. group G.R.L.
Fans of British band Little Mix tuned into U.K TV show The X Factor on Sunday night (16Oct16) to see them perform new hit Shout Out To My Ex for the first time. The song has already garnered its fair share of attention thanks to the barbed lyrics, which are about Perrie Edwards’ former fiance Zayn Malik.
While many have praised the band, also made up of Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, for their bold statement, others have now also slammed the girls’ song for sounding uncannily similar to G.R.L. on their song Ugly Heart.
“Loving this Ugly Heart cover,” tweeted @imjonnychambers, while @Lil_MiSi stated: “Shout Out To My Ex by Little Mix sounds identical to Ugly Heart by GRL … #awkward”.
The comparisons haven’t gone unnoticed by the members of G.R.L. either, who also took to Twitter to share their views.
“#ShoutOutToUglyHeart,” the group simply posted.
Ugly Heart was released in June 2014 when the group was made up of members Emmalyn Estrada, Paula van Oppen, Simone Battle, Lauren Bennett and Natasha Slayton. In September that year Simone committed suicide, with the group calling it quits in June 2015.
Lauren and Natasha reformed in August (16), adding singer Jazzy Mejia to the line-up, which now operates as a trio.
The Little Mix girls also received criticism online for dressing “too provocatively” for the performance on the TV talent show.
