David Gilmour guitar breaks auction records at Christie’s

Pink Floyd star David Gilmour’s Wish You Were Here guitar has set a Christie’s auction house record after going under the hammer on Thursday (20Jun19).
The C.F. Martin & Company Nazareth 1969 D-35 instrument, which was the rocker’s main studio guitar throughout the 1970s, sold for almost $1.1 million (£870,000), breaking a previous record set by Eric Clapton’s axe in 2004.
The acoustic guitar was one of 120 instruments Gilmour has parted with to raise cash for various charities.
“These guitars have been very good to me,” he recently said. “They’re my friends. They have given me lots of music. I just think it’s time that they went off and served someone else.
“I have had my time with them. And of course the money that they will raise will do an enormous amount of good in the world, and that is my intention.”
