Elle King opens up about depression and PTSD struggle

Singer Elle King has gone public with her mental health struggles in a candid post on social media.
The Ex’s and Oh’s star opened up about living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression via Instagram on Saturday (01Jul17), revealing she has been struggling behind closed doors for some time.
“I made a decision yesterday that was a really f**king hard one,” she wrote, without actually sharing what her decision was about.
“I’m slowly learning that prolonging and putting off that inevitable and looming painful decision or choice … ONLY CREATES MORE PAIN,” she continued. “AND YOURE (sic) LITERALLY JUST SITTING IN IT. I made that hard choice yesterday, and for a while it felt like my life was over.”
However, Elle explains a visit with her doctor to treat her PTSD helped her let go of some of her troubles.
“I felt that door inside of me open up just a little bit more,” she shared. “It used to be covered in caution tape and red lights flashing DO NOT OPEN. But I felt a cool little breeze and it wasn’t as scary peeping through.”
Elle goes on to compare her mental illness to an acid trip, and then tells fans she is doing her best to put her health first.
“Today, if presented with two options, I will CHOOSE the one that is most beneficial and happy for me right then and there,” she added. “I’ll make some healthy choices. Today I’ll drink water and say something nice about myself. I brushed my teeth sooosososo good too (sic). I might even hug myself. But I’m definitely going to love myself. Just like I love all of you!!!”
Elle’s reflective Instagram post emerged two months after announcing she had called it quits with her secret husband Andrew Ferguson, who she had quietly wed three weeks after meeting last year (16).
The singer daughter of comedy star Rob Schneider turned 28 on Monday (03Jul17).
