George and Amal Clooney are regular customers at their local McDonald’s in Reading, England.
The 56-year-old star, his human rights lawyer wife, 39, and their infant twins Alexander and Ella live in a mansion in leafy Sonning, Berkshire, away from the prying eyes of the press and the public.
Despite his love of privacy, the star says he and his wife cannot resist taking a trip into the nearest town – Reading, for a McDonald’s meal.
“We go to Reading to go to McDonald’s,” he tells British newspaper The Sunday Times, but declined to expand on whether he prefers a Big Mac or a Filet-O-Fish from the fast food restaurant.
George and Amal delayed their move to their $15 million English country property after a battle with local planning officials over plans to install fencing and surveillance cameras.
He eventually revised the plans and the couple have continued to make improvements to their home, which sits on an island in the River Thames, including installing a tennis court.
George says he and his wife love the location of their home as it provides him with privacy – but isn’t too far from the bright lights of London.
“We’re only 50 minutes out of London, so you can get there for dinners,” he says. “It’s not like Oxford (England), way the f**k out. You can get a little privacy.”
The longtime bachelor married Amal in 2014 and she gave birth to Alexander and Ella in June (17).
And he believes that despite the world’s political problems, his children will eventually grow up to see a better world as young people will not make the same mistakes as their parents.
“There is bad out there but strangely, I’ve always been optimistic,” he explains. “It’s a cliche but I speak with kids and think, ‘These guys aren’t their parents.'”
He adds, “I do see the next generation moving in the right direction.”
