Kelly Clarkson isn’t a big fan of Breakaway hit

Pop star Kelly Clarkson drops her 2004 single Breakaway from her setlist whenever possible, because it’s not vocally “exciting” to perform.
The original American Idol champion scored a hit with the song from The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement soundtrack, after co-writer Avril Lavigne passed on the tune for her debut album, Let Go, but Clarkson confesses it’s one of her least favourites to sing live because it isn’t creatively challenging.
“It’s not that it’s a bad song, it’s just that it’s not an exciting song as a vocalist,” she explained. “But I appreciate the song, I love the song, and I love when people sing it with me, but Breakaway is kinda like, the most ‘meh’. As a vocalist, I think it’s more of like, the storyteller waltz.”
However, there are some times when it suits Kelly to belt out the 14-year-old track, particularly when her vocals aren’t in tip top condition.
“I love singing Breakaway when my voice is (tired), because it’s so easy, because all my other songs are like (doing vocal acrobatics),” she shared with the Today show.
