The Weeknd discovered falsetto singing along to Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough

R&B star The Weeknd credits Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough hit with helping him discover his falsetto.
The Can’t Feel My Face singer, who wasn’t even born when the song was released, reveals listening to the King of Pop’s Off The Wall album for the first time as a child helped him explore the full range of his vocals.
“I always use Michael, first and foremost, as a vocal inspiration, and Off The Wall was definitely the one that made me feel like I could sing,” The Weeknd explains in footage for director Spike Lee’s new documentary, Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall. “I found my falsetto because of Off The Wall, Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.”
The film also features interviews with John Legend, Questlove, Pharrell Williams, and Stevie Wonder, as well as Michael’s parents, Katherine and Joe, but only two of the late superstar’s eight surviving siblings agreed to participate in the project.
Touching on the reason for their absence, Spike tells U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America, “There’s family issues, but there’s really no need to go into that.”
However, Spike, who made the Bad 25 documentary four years ago, hopes Michael’s three children will be allowed to see the film, as it’s a celebration of their father’s legacy.
“We don’t know if they saw the first one, Bad 25, so we gave it to (Michael’s) parents and they have to share it with them; it’s their decision,” Spike says. “I hope they wanna see it, ’cause it’s a testament to the greatness of their father.”
Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall, which chronicles the 1979 album that established the King of Pop as a true superstar, is due to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah later this month (Jan16), before debuting on TV in February (16).
Michael Jackson died in 2009.
