Salt Lake City Movie Theaters: Broadway Centre Cinemas
Broadway Centre Cinemas is an art-house venue in downtown Salt Lake City that hosts first-indie films. Owned and supported by the Salt Lake Film Society, the theater works to keep the love of independent film alive in the Salt Lake City area.
Founded in 2001, the Salt Lake Film Society aims to bring a diverse selection of films to Utah’s capital. The organization offers over 12,000 opportunities a year, ranging from new movies, film festivals, and special events. The film society operates its films in both the Broadway Centre Cinemas and the Tower Theatre.
During COVID, both theaters had to shut their doors and transition to an online format. Guests could purchase movies online to watch at home, and proceeds would go to the theater. The cinema has finally reopened its doors this October, with a premiere of the new release Dune. The Tower Theatre is still closed.
One Google reviewer claims the theater is the apex of Utah cinema, saying, “They show all the smaller movies that won’t play in megaplexes. Great concessions and a Cafe to boot! It really felt like I was a part of some bigger cultural sphere coming here.”

Salt Lake City Movie Theaters: Cinemark West Valley City and XD
Cinemark West Valley City and XD is a 10-screen theater about 15 minutes away from Salt Lake City. The theater features the NextGen cinema design concept with wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screens, 4k digital projection, 3D capability, and surround sound systems.

Salt Lake City Movie Theaters: Redwood Drive-in Theatre
The Redwood Drive-in Theatre mixes nostalgia with modern technology. Operating since 1948, the drive-in offered Salt Lake City residents a fun way to spend time with loved ones. Now, the theater runs with a digital projection system and sound that comes from FM radio.
The drive-in runs from late April to September/October, with showings on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. During the season, the drive-in screens back-to-back films.
