Sausage Party debuts at top of the U.K. box office

Seth Rogen’s adult animated comedy Sausage Party has opened at the number one spot at the U.K. box office.
The comedy, about food products hoping to be bought for America’s Independence Day parties, scored the best opening for an R-rated animated comedy with $33.6 million (£25 million) when it debuted in the U.S. in August (16), and came in second place behind supervillain blockbuster Suicide Squad.
It has now repeated its success in the U.K. by coming top over the weekend (02-04Sep16) with £3.6 million (£2.7 million), ahead of fellow newcomer Brotherhood, the third in Noel Clarke’s Kidulthood trilogy, which came second with an impressive $2.7 million (£2 million).
Disney Pixar animated movie Finding Dory was finally knocked off the top spot and dropped to third with $2 million (£1.5 million) while Mila Kunis comedy Bad Moms took $1.6 million (£1.2 million). The top five was rounded out by Suicide Squad with $1.1 million (£800,000).
