Suicide Squad annihilates competition at U.K. box office

Suicide Squad continued its dominance on both sides of the Atlantic over the weekend (12-14Aug16) with a second week on top of the U.K. box office.
The supervillain movie, starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie, was critically mauled ahead of its opening. But the scathing reviews haven’t damaged the film financially as the public continued to flock to cinemas to watch it in its second week in both the U.S. and U.K., where it remains a box office chart topper.
In the U.K., it took $5.5 million (£4.2 million) at the weekend, a significant drop from its opening weekend of $14.5 million (£11.2 million), but still far ahead of the second place, Disney Pixar’s animation sequel Finding Dory, which made $3.4 million (£2.6 million).
Jason Bourne remains in third for a second week with $1.9 million (£1.5 million) and Steven Spielberg’s remake of The BFG was another non-mover in fourth with $1.44 million (£1.11 million).
New entry Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, starring Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick, came in at five with $1.39 million (£1.07 million).
