Still Evil: ‘Aladdin’ Broadway Cast Includes Original Jafar!

AladdinDisney

The Disney Theatrical Productions juggernaut recently announced the cast of the upcoming Broadway stage version of AladdinThe musical talent hitting the boards for the pre-Broadway Toronto run and the New York production includes Jonathan Freeman as Jafar. “What’s the big deal?,” you say. “Who’s Jonathan Freeman?”

Jonathan Freeman is Jafar. He is the Jafar. He’s the stage actor and voice talent who played the sultan’s evil vizier in the 1992 Disney classic. Bascially, it’s your childhood live on stage.

The show has been in development for a long time. Freeman also played the role during the 2011 Seattle run. Here he is previewing one of the songs mined from the movie’s cutting room floor and reinstated for the stage version. Close your eyes and you can almost conjure those spiky shoulders and that twirly goatee.
