Alexandre Desplat named BMI Icon

Oscar-winning composer ALEXANDRE DESPLAT was honoured with an Icon Award at the Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) annual Film/TV prizegiving ceremony on Wednesday (13May15).
Desplat, who won an Academy Award earlier this year (15) for his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel, followed in the footsteps of composers John Williams and Danny Elfman by landing the honour, which is given to those “who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music”.
He tells Billboard.com, “They are my idols and I dreamed one day of doing the work that they were doing. I never thought about the awards. For me, it was just about writing good music for great films and then one day, write music for a Hollywood film. So here I am and so I am really thrilled.”
President of Walt Disney Music Chris Montan was also honoured with the BMI Classic Contribution Award and a video tribute from Phil Collins during the Los Angeles ceremony, while composers from the past year’s top-grossing films and top-rated TV series were recognised.
