H.E.R. brings pet snake to MTV VMAs

R&B star H.e.r. took an unusual accessory to the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday (26Aug19) – her pet snake.
The singer was nominated for Best New Artist and Best R&B for her track Could’ve Been (featuring Bryson Tiller), and also took to the stage to debut her new hit Anti. But it was the star’s arrival on the red carpet that really had heads turning, as the 22-year-old wore the snake as an accessory with her Valentino green, printed jumpsuit.
Taking to Instagram to share a clip of her posing for photographers, the star wrote: “VMA’S with a noodle (snake emoji).
“i got 5 noodles at home. I try to bring them everywhere I can because people love them and they are really cool,” the singer, real name Gabriella Wilson, continued. “They are used to being around a lot of people. @jayprehistoricpets taught me lol better than being alone. They are great pets.”
The musician lost out to Normani, who scooped the Best R&B gong for Waves (featuring 6lack), while Billie Eilish took home the Best New Artist prize.
Despite Wilson’s unusual accessory, she wasn’t the only VMA guest who took a snake to the awards ceremony. Tana Mongeau, the girlfriend of YouTube star Jake Paul, also wore a serpent around her outfit, apparently having taken inspiration from Britney Spears’ iconic performance of I’m A Slave 4 U at the awards back in 2001.
