Cabbage singer denies sexual harassment allegations

Cabbage singer Lee Broadbent has denied allegations he sexually harassed a female fan while performing.
The up-and-coming British indie group played at the London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town as a support act for fellow rockers Kasabian on Wednesday (19Apr17).
On Thursday (20Apr17), a Twitter user accused Lee of fondling himself in front of a young woman in the front row during the band’s set, rubbing his hand on her before pushing her head towards his crotch.
They went on to allege that after the woman’s father, who was attending the gig with her, alerted security, the Gibraltar Ape singer was asked to apologise but angrily refused.
The group swiftly responded with a statement posted on their own Twitter account in which they strongly denied the “unfounded” allegations.
“We completely deny the accusations put against Lee this morning,” the band’s statement read. “His hands were never down his trousers – although he did go down to the barrier to interact with the crowd, as he does at all Cabbage shows.”
The group did admit that a complaint had been made by a father and his daughter, and added, “After a complaint was made, Lee took it on himself to apologise, which is what any decent person would do if he learns that someone has been offended. Lee met with them, discussed the situation and hands were shaken before father and daughter left and then they stayed for the rest of the show.”
Adding that that they were “shocked and deeply troubled by these fabrications”, Cabbage claimed security guards present at the gig could confirm their version of events.
The rockers also gave their backing to Safe Gigs for Women, an initiative aiming to stamp out sexual harassment at live music shows.
