Cable comic creator wants Jon Hamm for movie adaptation

Comic book creator Rob Liefeld has named Jon Hamm as his “dream” pick to bring his superhero character Cable to life on the big screen.
The former Marvel artist, who is responsible for helping to create the X-Men spin-off character and Deadpool associate, made his feelings known on Sunday night (10Jan16) as he tuned in to the Golden Globe Awards on TV and cheered on Hamm after he won the Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama for his role in Mad Men.
Taking to Twitter.com, he wrote, “Yes! Jon Hamm, Dream Future Cable pick, wins for Mad Men!”
He even posted a side-by-side of his Cable artwork next to a doctored image of Hamm as the time-travelling mutant.
Tom Miller, who directed the upcoming Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds, has previously discussed his hopes of including Cable in a potential sequel to satisfy fans’ demands.
“If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2, I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail!” Miller told Empire magazine.
Hamm has yet to comment on Liefeld’s casting hopes, but he has previously confessed to turning down a number of chances to join big comic book franchises.
“For me to sign on now to do a superhero movie would mean I would be working until I am 50 as that particular superhero,” the 44-year-old told Britain’s Radio Times. “It’s a lot of work at one thing, which is not necessarily the reason I got into the business – which is to do many things. If you want to spend all day pressing the same key that… seems an odd choice.”
The actor did not name the roles he had been approached for, but he was once rumoured to be in the running for Superman in Man of Steel, before Henry Cavill was cast, and for the titular character in Doctor Strange, a part which eventually went to Benedict Cumberbatch.
