Cobie Smulders books Broadway debut

Avengers star Cobie Smulders is set to make her Broadway debut in a revival of Noel Coward play Present Laughter.
The actress will join Kevin Kline in the forthcoming production, a comedy partly based on Coward’s own life.
Kline will star as the arrogant Garry Essendine, with Smulders taking on the role of his best friend’s wife.
Stage veteran Kate Burton will also be part of the line-up as Garry’s ex-wife Liz Essendine, returning to the play she made her Broadway debut in back in 1982, while Kristine Nielsen will portray Garry’s secretary.
“Casting one leading lady to match Kevin’s astounding talent, style, and commitment would have been a daunting enough feat,” lead producer Jordan Roth states. “Casting three seemed like complete madness. How lucky we are to have found Kate, Kristine, and Cobie to complete this Coward comedy dream team.”
Hand to God’s Moritz von Stuelpnagel will direct the show, which will launch with a limited 16-week run from 10 March (17).
While Smulders is new to the Great White Way, she previously appeared in an Off Broadway production of Love, Loss and What I Wore in 2009.
