David Furnish praises U.K.’s ‘tolerance’ and ‘acceptance’ as he becomes British citizen

David Furnish is officially a British citizen.
The Canadian-born star resides in England with his husband Elton John and their children Zachary, six, and four-year-old Elijah, splitting their time between homes in London and Windsor. They also have bases across America, but it’s the U.K. where David can now legally call home.
“A very emotional morning for me. This morning, I was sworn in as a British citizen,” David posted on Instagram. “As an immigrant, I moved to the UK more than 27 years years ago. I was welcomed with open arms. This spirit of acceptance, tolerance and diversity has allowed me to achieve a life beyond my wildest dreams. I am a very blessed man, and I am extremely proud to now carry both British and Canadian passports. @eltonjohn #ShareTheLove”
His heartfelt words were accompanied by an image of David and his young sons, shot from behind as they stood in front of a picture of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and a Union Jack flag.
Fans were quick to congratulate the 54-year-old producer on his dual citizenship.
David’s call to share the love comes days after controversial American leader Donald Trump temporarily banned citizens from seven different Muslim-majority countries entering the U.S. for a 90 day period.
Famous names have shared their outrage at the ‘Muslim ban’ with many of Hollywood’s biggest stars condemning the move during Sunday night’s (29Jan17) Screen Actors Guild Awards, including Ashton Kutcher, Dev Patel and Stranger Things star David Harbour.
