DJ Premier to score new TV movie

Rap veteran DJ PREMIER is adding TV composer to his resume after signing up to work on a new small screen movie about the hip-hop industry.
The Grammy Award-winning Gang Starr producer, who has collaborated with the likes of Nas, Jay Z and the late Notorious B.I.G., is teaming up with bosses at U.S. cable network VH1 for The Breaks, which will follow three friends who try to break into the music industry in New York City during the early 1990s.
Premier, real name Christopher Martin, will provide the score for the film, which is based on Dan Charnas’ non-fiction book The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop, and he’ll also serve as executive music producer.
Seith Mann, whose credits include episodes of Entourage, The Wire and Homeland, will pull triple duty and write, direct and executive produce The Breaks, which TV bosses are considering turning into a series if it proves to be a success.
Production on the TV movie will begin in June (15). It will air later this year (15).
