George Clooney on Gay Rumors, Marriage and … Neil Patrick Harris?!

15164784.jpgIn an interview with The Advocate that hit newsstands this week, Oscar-winning (though not for The Descendants!) dreamboat George Clooney held forth on all things gay to writer Brandon Voss.

On the hot-button topic of marriage equality, Clooney called it “the final leg of the civil rights movement” and re-established his oft-uttered sentiment that “every time we’ve stood against equality, we’ve been on the wrong side of history.”

Regarding the apparently extant rumors that he himself is gay, Clooney dismissed a strategy of vigorous denial that other wrongly-accused celebrities have used in the past, saying, “Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t give a sh*t.”

Clooney praised his peers who’ve come out of the closet, including Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen Degeneres, adding that he’s encouraged that Harris’ career hasn’t suffered as a result. “He’s a big star on a hit show, and no one’s telling him he can’t play a straight womanizer,” raved Clooney. “I use Neil as an example because I’ve spent time with him and I like him a lot.”

Those looking for stories of bromantic adventures with Brad Pitt are going to be disappointed. “People think Brad and I hang out all the time, but the truth is that we see each other very rarely, maybe a couple times a year,” Clooney revealed.

Finally, Clooney may be a huge star, but he isn’t immune to envy. Asked, for whatever reason, for his thoughts on Michael Fassbender‘s infamous nude scenes in Shame, he responded, “Well, c’mon. Every guy who saw that movie was like, ‘Jesus Christ,’ at the exact same time.”
