George MacKay and Russell Crowe to star in True History of the Kelly Gang

George Mackay and Russell Crowe have joined the cast of True History Of The Kelly Gang.
Justin Kurzel will direct the film, which is based on Peter Carey’s novel of the same name. The production is slated to begin filming in March (18) in Australia.
Nicholas Hoult, Essie Davis, Travis Fimmel, Sean Keenan, Dacre Montgomery, Harry Greenwood, Thomasin McKenzie, and Earl Cave will also star in the movie. MacKay will play escaped convict Ned Kelly, who was killed during a shootout with Australian police in 1880, according to Variety.com.
“Peter Carey’s book The True History of the Kelly Gang always felt like the true spirit of Ned Kelly,” Kurzel says. “Unsentimental, brutal, raw and visceral. His story is one of the great odysseys in history, and I feel excited to be bringing it to the screen with a fresh cinematic eye. This is a really unique and modern cast, and I am so proud to be working with such a talented ensemble of new faces and celebrated actors.”
A release date has yet to be announced.
