Infomercial Star Mays Suffered from Heart Disease

Preliminary results from an autopsy conducted on TV personality Billy Mays suggest that he suffered from heart disease and an artery blockage that led to his sudden death at the weekend.

Mays was found dead in his Florida home on Sunday, after passing away in his sleep at the age of 50.

His death came just hours after he was hit on the head when the plane he was travelling on blew a tire as it landed in Tampa on Saturday, prompting speculation that a possible head injury was to blame for ending his life.

The Tampa, Florida, coroner’s office announced on Monday that the TV star suffered from heart disease and had a pulmonary embolism prior to his death — insisting there was no evidence of head trauma.

Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Vernard Adams explains Mays “had an enlarged heart, a thickening of the wall of the ventricle which takes blood to the heart.”

Mays found fame as an infomercial pitchman, most recently advertising OxiClean on TV.

Final results of the autopsy and cause of death are not expected to be released for several weeks.
