INXS actor wins top Logie Award

Actor LUKE ARNOLD has landed Australia’s top TV award for his portrayal of late INXS frontman MICHAEL HUTCHENCE in a small screen mini-series.
Arnold was named Most Outstanding Actor at the 2015 Logie Awards in Melbourne on Sunday night (03May15) in recognition of his performance in INXS: Never Tear Us Apart.
However, he was not on hand to receive his first Logie and gave his acceptance speech via a video message , in which he sported new facial hair, prompting him to later write on Twitter.com, “Thank you #TVWEEKLogies and everyone for your support. Not sure if I’m more excited about the Logie or how much attention my beard is getting.”
Meanwhile, actress Miranda Tapsell was a double winner for the show Love Child, taking home the Most Popular New Talent and Most Outstanding Newcomer prizes.
Another star going away with two trophies was TV personality Carrie Bickmore, who was named the Most Popular Presenter for her talk show The Project, as well as the top prize of the Gold Logie, the accolade for the most popular personality on Australian television.
It was Bickmore’s fourth nomination for the title and her first win, and upon accepting the prize, she paid tribute to her late husband Greg, who died from brain cancer in 2010, by donning a blue beanie hat to raise awareness of the deadly disease.
She told the crowd, “Throughout his cancer journey, he used to wear a lot of hats and he used to wear a lot of beanies and that was because he felt embarrassed about his scars and his head. I used to say to him don’t be embarrassed, scars are really, really cool and beanies are also really cool.
“I want to ask anybody that is on TV in Australia tomorrow, to whack on a beanie. I want to get the nation talking about brain cancer.”
The evening at the Crown Palladium was also filled with star-studded performances from Meghan Trainor, Ricky Martin and The Script.
