Griffin caused uproar at last year’s ceremony by peppering her speech with religious references, telling the crowd: “(Jesus) didn’t help me a bit. Suck it Jesus, this award is my God now.”

This year, the comedienne was determined to continue the controversy, opening with: “Well, well well! Here we go again, f**ckers.”

The 47-year-old made reference to last year’s speech, saying “I’m not going to tell anyone to suck it”, and went on to show her delight at winning by exclaiming, “I would make love to this thing if I could.”

Griffin lost out in her second award nomination for best stand-up comedy special to funnyman Don Rickles.
