The veteran star will play the curator of a Vincent van Gogh exhibition in the upcoming episode, which will be set in both modern day and 19th century France.
The episode was written by Nighy’s Love Actually director Richard Curtis.
A source tells Digital Spy, “It was a real coup to get Bill Nighy in Doctor Who, especially in Richard Curtis’ amazing episode. Bill plays a van Gogh expert with some similar fashion choices to The Doctor himself.”

The episode is believed to have been filmed over Christmas in Croatia and Cardiff, Wales.
