In a new interview with iVillage, First Lady Michelle Obama expresses that she’s just like any other mother in the world because she just really hopes she’s doing a good job raising her daughters (Sasha, 10 and Malia, 13) and teaching them to be normal and good people. Her task is a difficult one, obviously, because the girls are growing up under distinctly unique circumstances. And since Mrs. Obama recognizes how the benefits that come from living in the White House can negatively affect her kids’ behavior, she revealed she has a bit of help in the endeavor of making sure her girls stay well mannered. She revealed that after Sasha and Malia leave a friend’s house, she’ll call up the parents and ask how they behaved. Mrs. Obama said each and every time she’s checked up on her daughter’s actions, the parents she’s spoken to always told her that her girls were great and carried themselves in respectable ways.
The Fist Lady also indulged readers with a tidbit about what the family’s TV habits are like, and said that during the week girls aren’t allowed to watch TV or use the computer unless it’s to do homework. But on the weekend, TV is permitted and sometimes, an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians is consumed. Mrs. Obama clarified the President’s view of the show, saying, “Barack really thinks some of the Kardashian — when they watch that stuff — he doesn’t like that as much, but I sort of feel like if we’re talking about it, and I’m more concerned with how they take it in — what did you learn when you watched that. And if they’re learning the right lessons, like, that was crazy, then I’m like, okay.” And while we can’t say we’re surprised to hear that Obama doesn’t see the humor in watching Kris accidentally give Rob a male enhancement pill that was meant for Bruce, it’s wholeheartedly amazing to consider the possibility that he’s watched that very scene and then gone on to think about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
