Quick! Everyone think up your best “birthing hips don’t lie” joke and tweet it out because Shakira is pregnant! According to a post on the singer’s official website and Facebook page, Shakira and her husband Gerard Pique are pregnant with their first child.
The announcement was short and simple (and in both Spanish and English), but did mention that a planned appearance at Las Vegas’ iHeartRadio Music Festival would have to be cancelled.
The news comes just days after Shakira was announced the substitute judge for Christina Aguilera on The Voice while she and fellow coach Cee Lo Green hit the road in support of their new albums. Fellow one-namer Usher will also be joining Shakira for the season. The statement from Shakira is as follows:
As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.
This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, but I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there!
I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding.
