Spike Jonze film editor Eric Zumbrunnen dies aged 52

Director Spike Jonze’s favourite film editor Eric Zumbrunnen, who worked on his movies Being John Malkovich and Her, has died aged 52.
His death was confirmed to website Deadline by his publicist Jason Kasperski, who told the news outlet that Zumbrunnen died of stomach cancer on 1 August (17).
The award-winning editor’s work on Jonze’s films earned him three American Cinema Editors (ACE) Awards, and won for Being John Malkovich, and a nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Academy (BAFTA).
He scored his second ACE nomination for Jonze’s Adaptation in 2002, and was also the editor on Jonze’s next film, 2009’s Where the Wild Things Are. His other projects include 2012 film John Carter.
Zumbrunnen began his career editing music videos and documentaries, including Iron Maiden: Donington Live 1992 and The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, before moving on to edit videos for artists such as Bjork, Smashing Pumpkins and Beck. He won the Best Editing VMA for Weezer’s Buddy Holly in 1995 and Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice in 2001.
In 2017 he was awarded a Bronze Lion for Editing at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for his work on Jonze’s Kenzo World fragrance ad, My Mutant Brain.
This year he was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences based on his body of work.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne and children Henry and Greta.
