The Stone Roses cancel shows after drummer fractures ribs

The Stone Roses have cancelled two shows in Tokyo, Japan after their drummer Alan ‘Reni’ Wren fractured two ribs in a fall.
The legendary British rockers had been scheduled to perform at the Japanese capital’s Budokan indoor arena on 2 and 3 June (16).
However, according to a statement published on the website of concert promoters, Creative Man on Monday (09May16), the Made of Stone musicians will be unable to play after Wren sustained the rib injury.
“The Stone Roses are very sorry to have to cancel their two proposed concerts at the Budokan,” the statement reads. “Reni has had an accidental fall and fractured two ribs, his doctor has told him to rest for at least a month. Unfortunately this means that the band are unable to fulfil (sic) their planned performances in Japan.”
The dates, which are no longer advertised on The Stone Roses’ website, would have been the group’s first performance in the country since they performed in Osaka in 2013.
In March (16), bandmembers Ian Brown, Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, John Squire and Wren confirmed they were working on a follow-up to their 1994 album Second Coming.
Later in June, the band are due to return to their hometown of Manchester, England to play shows at the city’s Etihad Stadium. The gigs are due to take place on 13, 15, 17 and 19 June (16).
They are also set to perform in Dublin and at Scotland’s T in the Park festival in July (16).
Representatives of the group have been contacted by WENN to determine if their U.K. and Ireland dates will be going ahead as planned – despite the statement indicating Wren will have to rest for “at least a month”.
They were yet to respond at the time of WENN going to press.
