Tom Cruise Wins Domain Name from Cyber-Pirate

Tom Cruise has won his appeal for the rights to domain name tomcruise.com after it was used for advertising by a cyber-pirate.

The opportunist, identified only as Network Operations Center/Alberta Hot Rods, was ordered to hand the site over to the Mission: Impossible star yesterday.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ruled in favor of the actor at the end of an online case, insisting the pirate was exploiting genuine Cruise fans by directing them to goods and services with no link to the actor.

Cruise is the latest in a long line of celebrities, including Celine Dion and Kevin Spacey, to have battled the U.S.-based Network Operations Center for misuse of their names.
