Hollywood might be like a giant high school, but unlike real life, its students aren’t afraid to intermingle with other cliques. Sometimes two celebrities from completely different circles meet and sparks fly. Maybe it’s because actors, musicians and athletes are often invited to the same industry parties, and because celebrities are attractive no matter their trade, when two famous people meet it’s almost weird if they don’t hook up. These inter-industry couples are usually the most interesting pairings, but more often than not, they’re usually either a one-night fling or just a rumor. We’re not going to play detective and find out the truth, but we will break down the top five weirdest celebrity hookup reports.
Zac Efron and Nicki Minaj
Star magazine recently reported that Zac Efron and Nicki Minaj had a “steamy sex affair,” which Nicki herself quickly shot down. “Who exactly is Zac Efron tho? I’m sorry, I’m so confused,” she tweeted. When a fan tweeted a shirtless picture of the actor in response, she tweeted back, “Oooohhhh ok… Well I guess that rumor isn’t so bad after all. lmfao.” Guess it was too good to be true.
Britney Spears and Colin Farrell
Britney Spears and Colin Farrell had a brief fling in 2003, when the Irish actor took her to the premiere of his movie The Recruit. They were seen kissing on the red carpet and on a balcony at the Chateau Marmont later that night. Farrell insisted, “We’re just mates, and we’re not dating,” and reportedly sent the pop singer a t-shirt that read “I slept with Colin Farrell and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.” Hopefully that was the only thing she got.
Jason Statham and Kristin Cavallari
If only this could have been featured on an episode of The Hills. During the summer of 2009, Jason Statham and Kristin Cavallari were seen getting cozy together on the Hollywood club scene several times. Sources told Us Weekly that the Crank star was attracted to the reality star, but it was just a hookup situation. A year later, the two met up again at Coachella and got into some trouble together when they took a golf cart for a spin and were stopped by the police. Sounds like they could have been a fun couple if only Rosie Huntington-Whiteley didn’t come along and redirect Statham’s attention.
Rihanna and Ashton Kutcher
After Ashton Kutcher split from Demi Moore in 2011 and before Rihanna took up with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Chris Brown in 2012, the “Diamonds” singer had a nearly four-month fling with the Two and a Half Men star. According to sources, they met at a friend’s party in December 2011, swapped numbers, and started meeting up almost immediately. After a photographer caught Rihanna leaving Kutcher’s house in the middle night, however, he reportedly called it quits, suspecting that she had tipped off the paparazzi. Rihanna fired back that maybe he did it because clearly he has more to gain from the public knowing. She’s kind of right.
Natalie Portman and Moby
This might be the most unexpected pair but perhaps the most inspiring for nerds everywhere. In a 2008 interview with Spin, Moby humble-bragged about having a brief fling with Natalie Portman, which led to some negative attention. “As far as the very brief affair that I had with Natalie, it’s made me a target of a lot of nerd wrath. You don’t date Luke Skywalker’s mom and not have them hate your guts.”
