White Ribbon favourite for Oscar after Broken Embraces snubbed

Pedro Almodovar’s acclaimed Broken Embraces has failed to make the latest shortlist for Best Foreign Film, but Germany’s Golden Globe winner The White Ribbon will be among those vying for a nomination on 2 February (10), and an award on 7 March (10).

The full list of pre-nominees are El Secreto de Sus Ojos (Argentina), Samson & Delilah (Australia), The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks around the Corner (Bulgaria), Un Prophete (France), Ajami (Israel), Kelin (Kazakhstan), Winter in Wartime (The Netherlands), The White Ribbon (Germany) and The Milk of Sorroe (Peru).

Initially, 65 films were successfully entered for Academy consideration in October (09). Five from the new shortlist will officially be nominated.
