Zack Snyder: ‘Ben Affleck should direct a Batman movie’

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice filmmaker Zack Snyder is encouraging Ben Affleck to direct a future Caped Crusader movie.
The Gone Girl actor made his debut as Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego, Batman, in Snyder’s new blockbuster, and Ben is set to reprise his superhero role in the forthcoming Justice League: Part One, which Zack is also taking charge of.
However, the moviemaker would love to see Ben step behind the camera for a stand-alone Batman project.
“I keep working on him; he’s always said he’s a one movie at a time guy,” Zack explained to Joe.ie. “He’s finishing editing his film Live By Night and then he comes to Justice League, and then after that, I think he’s going to try and develop the story (for a separate Batman film). Then we’ll see if he likes it.”
Asked if Ben should direct the film too, Zack responded, “Oh yeah, for sure. I think he would. I think that’s kind of the prerequisite, hopefully, for him doing (the film).”
Zack’s remarks emerge shortly after it was revealed that Ben has already started work on his own concept for the Dark Knight.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, WME-IMG co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell, whose agency represents Ben, reveal how many movies the two-time Oscar winner has currently signed up for when it comes to DC’s Caped Crusader.
“He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape,” Patrick said, adding, “There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool (Batman) idea, so that’s out there as an option (for a stand alone movie).”
The Argo actor/director has yet to comment on the news of his superhero script, but it isn’t the first time the prospect of a Ben-originated Batman movie has been raised. During San Diego’s Comic-Con last year (15), it was reported the 43-year-old was developing a stand-alone Batman project with DC Entertainment boss Geoff Johns, with Ben tentatively attached to direct and star.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which also stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, has been panned by critics, but that hasn’t stopped moviegoers from checking out the film. It has grossed over $680 million (£480 million) worldwide in just two weeks.
