Los Tigres del Norte bring historic prison concert movie to Netflix

Latino supergroup Los Tigres Del Norte’s historic 2018 gig at Folsom Prison in California is set to hit Netflix as a documentary.
The band was the only act authorised by officials at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to film and record at the prison last year as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the release of Johnny Cash’s 1968 live album, At Folsom Prison.
The new documentary, Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison, will also feature interviews with Latino and Latina inmates.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be the first band in 50 years to film and record our documentary and album in the very same location where Johnny Cash held his historic concert,” a statement from the bandmates reads. “Like Johnny Cash we knew that by simply going inside these prison walls, we could bring inspiration and hope to members of our own community in the midst of dark times, and bring a message that they are not forgotten.”
Los Tigres will also be releasing a live album from the recording of the concert. The first single with be their Spanish-language version of Cash’s classic song Folsom Prison Blues, which the group wrote with the country legend’s daughter-in-law, Ana Cristina Cash.
Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison will be available to stream on Netflix throughout Hispanic Heritage Month in September (19).
