Actor Jan Triska dies

Veteran Czech actor Jan Triska has died after suffering a fall in Prague on Saturday (23Sep17).
The 80-year-old sustained serious injuries after falling from the city’s famed Charles Bridge, and subsequently passed away in hospital. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, reports The Guardian.
Triska, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1977 after speaking out against Czechoslovakia’s communist regime, was known for his roles in films like Ragtime, The Karate Kid Part III, Ronin, The People vs Larry Flynt, and 2010: The Year We Make Contact, Peter Hyams’ 1984 sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
He also starred in 1991 Czech comedy The Elementary School, which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
On the small screen, Triska featured in shows such as Quantum Leap, Highlander: The Series, and appeared as Captain Henry Wirz in 1996 TV film Andersonville.
He was also a regular on stage, performing in early productions in Prague, and later in shows for New York’s Public Theater and the American National Theater.
