Alexandre Desplat to head Venice Film Festival jury

Oscar-nominated composer Alexandre Desplat has been handed the honour of serving as 2014 jury president at the Venice Film Festival in Italy. The French musician’s appointment marks the first time in the event’s history a composer has been appointed to lead the panel of judges, who will determine the winners of eight awards, including the prestigious Golden Lion for best film.
Desplat, who scored films including Argo, Philomena and The King’s Speech, follows in the footsteps of Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, who held the position last year (13).
The other jury members for the upcoming bash will be announced in due course.
The 71st annual Venice Film Festival will kick off on 27 August (14) and run until 6 September (14).
